Three pregnant women sitting o yoga mats , holding their bellies and smilingDuring the beautiful time of pregnancy, your body undergoes multiple changes which cause strain on the body. Common complaints from pregnant women include low back pain, pelvic pain, numbness and tingling in the legs, and upper back tension.  The joints, soft tissues, and nerves gently addressed during a chiropractic treatment have a physical connection to the uterus, and their overall function is very important during pregnancy. Chiropractic care during pregnancy can help relieve strains on the body and ease labour and delivery.

Chiropractic is a safe, effective, and gentle treatment during and after pregnancy. During pregnancy, there is a change in the biomechanics and weight distribution of the body, as well as hormonal changes which can create laxity in the ligaments and connective tissue. This can lead to back, hip and pubic pain.

A chiropractor uses drug-free methods such as adjustments of the spine and pelvis, as well as active release of the muscles, to relieve this discomfort. At Definitive Chiropractic and Wellness Centre, we have special pregnancy pillows to support you in a comfortable position during treatment. All of our techniques are modified to be gentle and comfortable.

Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis that uses adjustments of the pelvic joints to  reduce interference to the nervous system, and balance the mother’s pelvic muscles and ligaments. This reduces in-utero constraint, or torsion of the pelvis, which allows the baby room to move for optimal fetal positioning in preparation for birth. It also allows the pelvis to open during delivery, and can help reduce pain and the length of labour.
